Getting crafty in time for Spring
We love competing and doing creative things at Southfield so when we were given the opportunity to enter a craft competition with other Bradford special schools we jumped at the chance.
Local teaching supply agency Teaching Personnel arranged the 'Nurture and Nature' competition to give something back to the schools and to beckon the change of season at the beginning of Spring. The challenge was to create the greatest bunch of craft daffodils and ours students and staff really delivered.
The materials were provided and lots of our classes got involved in making a variety of creations from paintings to 3D wall displays and event a vase of flowers. On Wednesday 1st March we welcomed Rebecca Holden from Teaching Personnel to the school to look around the displays and meet the staff & students. She gave some really great feedback and commented that the standard of work was very high.
This was not only a great way to incorporate craft into the curriculum but it also taught the students about a cultural event on St David's Day, which was the same day our entries were judged. This was no coincidence with our Headteacher Mrs Hill being so very proud of her Welsh heritage (her mum's Welsh Cakes are legendary at Southfield!)
Thanks to everyone who took part and to Teaching Personnel for organising it.
