Ofsted: Good with Outstanding Features
Southfield School is proud to announce the result of our latest Ofsted inspection.
Following our inspection on 17 - 18th March we are now able to release the report which confirms our status as good with outstanding features. This was the school’s first inspection since becoming an academy and the report demonstrates progress made since our last inspection in September 2011, when the school was judged to be satisfactory.
The inspectors commented that “precisely targeted school development planning is leading to rapid improvements in all areas of the provision” and subsequently, “students’ achievement is good and is improving.” They continue to report that “the most able students gain qualifications in reading, writing, communication and mathematics” whilst “students of lower ability make good strides in their personal, social and communication development.”
The inspection found the behaviour and safety of pupils to be outstanding, with inspectors commenting that “students love coming to school and to the sixth form centre and attitudes to learning are exemplary.” Also graded outstanding was leadership and management, with headteacher, senior and middle leaders providing “outstanding leadership with a shared vision and purpose.” There is also special mention for the school’s outstanding sixth form provision, the Pathfinder Vocational Centre, where “students make rapid progress in their confidence” and “enjoy a rich curriculum which prepares them exceptionally well for the world of work or for the next step in their education.” Teaching was graded as “good overall with an increasing amount which is outstanding”, whilst the achievement of students was also graded as “good and improving.”
Headteacher, Dominic Wall said: “We are delighted with the result of this inspection. To have three out of the five areas graded ‘outstanding’ and the other two ‘good’ is a great achievement. There are always areas which require improvement and we are already working to address these for the benefit of our students. We are proud of the emphasis our school puts on the individual care and support of each and every student, so it is extremely rewarding for all our staff to be recognised in this way for their contributions.”
