Naat and Qiraat
Southfield students take part in Muslim celebration.
On the evening of Wednesday 14th January, the Southfield Grange Trust hosted the annual Naat and Qiraat in the Campus Performance Space. Naat and Qiraat is an important event in the Muslim calendar which celebrates the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. We were delighted to welcome Imam Adil Shazad as a special guest to speak about topics including respect for teachers and respect for disability.
The event was well attended with the Performance Space close to full as families and other members of the community to see a number of students performing recitations from the Quran. Parents and families were very proud of the students’ performances, particularly those from Southfield School, who impressed the audience with the confidence and clarity of their recitations. The importance of our emphasis on performance and the regularity with which Southfield students perform on stage in a variety of roles and events was clear to see. All the students involved received their Year for Barry Excellence wristband as reward for their efforts.
£387.50 was raised for charity which was kindly donated to the Barry Holden Memorial Fund at Southfield Sport to promote disability Sport.
