A star in the making

Harris Akbar was amongst the winners at the inaugural Active Bradford Sports Awards

On Thursday 25th February the inaugural Bradford Sports Awards event took place at the Bradford Hotel.  Grange student Harris Akbar won the Young Male Sports Person category in recognition of his achievements as a  boxer.  Training at the Bradford Police & College Boxing Academy, Harris is a member of the England youth squad and recent accolades include England Youth Champion and Commonwealth Youth Games Gold medallist.  Harris said “It’s amazing to win an award like this.  I was so impressed with the other finalists’ achievements, so whoever won it deserved it.”  Next up for Harris are the World Championships this year before the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and then the 2020 Olympics.

A great night for the Southfield Grange Trust

Also represented were our neighbours Southfield School who were successful in in two award categories.  Student Sam Robinson took the Young Disability Sportsperson award and the school took the Active School award.  Overall, a haul of three awards across the campus and some recognition both for the achievements of our students and the commitment of the staff who teach and support them.

Southfield School's Sam Robinson celebrates with Dominic Wall (CEO, The Southfield Grange Trust) and Harris Akbar.
