Health & Therapy Services
Students may need to be given medication through the day. We fully support the school nursing team to ensure safety and access to these medications. There are procedures in place to ensure this and we ask parents / carers to support in enforcing them.
We have an extensive therapy suite to deliver the extended provision offered by the school nursing team, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and other services. This enables students to fully access the curriculum. The school works very hard to deliver care, guidance, support and information through a partnership approach with these other services wherever possible.
There are fully furnished and well equipped hygiene suites at Southfield. All the personal care needs of students are met. Our staff are trained in moving and handling techniques and it is our aim to deliver the best quality for personal and intimate care at all times.
Named staff receive training to enable them to deliver a range of medical interventions, following care plans agreed with parents and NHS staff.
Accident & Illness
If a student becomes ill during the school day we will follow the NHS care plan as agreed with parents. Should the need to go to hospital arise, a member of staff will accompany the child and stay with them until parents / carers arrive. There is an expectation that parents will arrive at hospital as soon as possible to take over the responsibility for their child.
In cases of sickness and diarrhoea, we request that students remain at home until 48 hours after the last episode. In the event of an outbreak of contagious disease, we will always seek and follow the NHS guidelines and procedures.
