Pathfinder Vocational Centre (PVC)

The PVC opened in September 2011 as a dedicated sixth form centre for Southfield School. This means that students aged 16-19 follow courses in vocational subjects including Catering, Horticulture and Sport and Active Leisure, alongside other students with SEN.  Located at the Southfield Grange Campus across the road from the main building, the PVC, offers a natural progression for some students at the end of their time at Southfield School, away from the traditional school environment. The PVC provision is based on a belief that students deserve and need the best preparation for a valued lifestyle after school, and so the courses help students to identify which pathway they should follow, whether it is a college course, employment or other training.

We are extremely proud of our sixth form and in our last Ofsted inspection, the sixth form provision was graded as outstanding.  Inspectors commented that "Students grow in maturity, independence and readiness to leave school and move into adult life." They added that "Teaching is outstanding. Teachers understand students' talents and their needs exceptionally well."  Other comments included "Student behaviour is excellent in the sixth form."  and "The PVC is sparate from but close to the school and provides an environment in which students can feel they have 'moved on' to a more collegiate setting."
